Below the brooding Lakeland peaks lies an even more mysterious landscape. Murky or clear, teeming with life or keeping dark secrets, the lakes, tarns, rivers, quarries and coastal waters of Cumbria have a powerful fascination for divers. Explore the submerged village of Mardale in Haweswater or seek out the crashed Mosquito night fighter which lies at the bottom of Red Tarn on Helvellyn.

Experienced divers are sure to find plenty of fresh challenges, from altitude dives in Ullswater to the demanding tunnels of Hodge Close. To begin discovering this hidden world you’ll need expert professional training (as well as permission to dive certain lakes). Why not contact one of the region’s diving clubs for a “try dive” to see if you like it?
