Lake District Sports - Lake District Canoeing
The word ‘canoeing’ is often used to encompass both canoes and kayaks. To avoid confusion, we’re talking about proper canoes: the
Canadian-style open boats, typically crewed by two or more people using single-bladed paddles. Think Last of the Mohicans. And now think Cumbria.
Get the picture?
There are all sorts of adventures for aspiring Hawkeyes here. Explore the
islands of Derwent Water with friends and family or find yourself up the creek (with a paddle!) on Ullswater. Practise solo paddling or develop
your team skills. Take on the challenges of canoe orienteering, go canoe touring - or even progress to a five day Advanced Open Boat course.
Canoes are very stable craft and there’s not much to learn before you’re messing about on the water. For anything more ambitious,
expert tuition and guidance is never far away.
