The lounge in the Black Bull was once The Lloyds Bank, and was the scene of a robbery in 1928 when the bank manager Mr. Abbey was killed by a man called Norman Elliot, who was caught by Police on his way home to Kelloe. Lloyds Bank was replaced by The Cash Boot Store before becoming part of the Black Bull itself.
The Black Bull is a very popular pub, especially at weekends as the Bar becomes 'The House of Sound', with a late license for the revellers.
Darlington Road was the original path of the Great North Road before 'The Cut' was built. The Black Bull Public House is an imposing structure to anyone travelling up into Ferryhill along Darlington Road.
