Looking back towards Ferryhill from here, you certainly wouldn't guess you were in the middle of Durham mining country. You can almost imagine yourself guiding a horse and cart along to market.
To the south of Ferryhill is Little Chilton. The track continues the line of Gordon Terrace and is on the path of an old Roman Road. In 1881, Little Chilton Farm was occupied by the Wilkinson family. Robert Wilkinson was described as a farmer of 750 acres employing 35 labourers.Just behind the farm to the south is the site of a Deserted Medieval Village.
