Another coal tub from the mines is displayed here. On the side is a list of men who lost their lives working in Ferryhill Pits. (Dean & Chapter Colliery and Mainsforth Pit.)
The Recreation Ground was originally created by the former Dean and Chapter Colliery, where the presence of coal was first recorded in 1343.The Dean and Chapter Welfare Committee was registered as a charity in 1936 and conveyed the land to Ferryhill Town Council in 1966, who continue to maintain the Recreation Ground for the people of Ferryhill.
